In human research, some evidence of H. pylori eradication has also been seen following the use of combination lactoferrin and probiotics [47]. In neonates, bovine lactoferrin (LF100®) alone or in combination with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG reduced the frequency of late-onset sepsis, particularly that induced by gram-positive bacteria, as well as the rate of sepsis-induced mortality vs. control [16]. A reduction in respiratory tract infections has also been seen following lactoferrin supplementation in combination with short-chain fructooligosaccharides and various probiotics (Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Bifidobacterium lactis) [20].

[한약-식이보충제 상호작용]
In humans (with and without constipation), milk containing probiotics, including BB536, increased defecation frequency and sensation after defecation; reduced fecal ammonia, indole, p-cresol, and activity of some fecal enzymes (beta-glucuronidase); increased fecal moisture and levels of short-chain and volatile fatty acids; and improved fecal odor and visual characteristics (color, shape, consistency) [22;23;24;25;26;27;28]. In animals, the pH of the feces was reduced [1]. In humans, oral supplementation of the diet with BB536, either alone or in combination with other probiotics or prebiotics, resulted in changes to the intestinal microflora [29;30;31;23;26;21;6;14;15;20;28;32;33;34;35;36;37;39;40;41;42;43;56]. The changes included improvements in Bifidobacterium strains and Lactobacillus strains, and reductions in bacteria such as the Enterobacteriaceae, Bacteroides fragilis and related species, and various aerobic bacteria, as well as reductions in endotoxins and Candida. These benefits have also been shown in animal studies [1]. In fermented milk, BB536 viability was improved when cocultivated with Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis [57;58].
