The 37th ICMART World Congress on Medical Acupuncture - 27-29 September 2024 - will take place in South Korea. Organized by the SKOM (Society of Korean Medicine), the themes chosen by our colleagues are: Future of Integrative Healthcare, Convergence of Acupuncture, Medical Science and Technology.

The ICMART World Congress is ‘the place to be’ to exchange knowledge, enhance our professional field and take part in the evolution of medical acupuncture.

During a previous stay –Medical Center, Kyung Hee University - I appreciated the way how Korean doctors integrated in every medical specialty their traditional medicine with the contemporary scientific knowledge.

The trip to the 2024 congress is the opportunity to discover South Korea, a dynamic and high-tech country. Seoul, the capital is a megalopolis constrasting with the countryside: cherry trees, camelias, ginkgos and Buddhist temples…

The island of Jeju-do, where our World Congress will take place, is a tourist flagship, combining traditional and modern culture, sea and mountains. Autumn is the ideal season to discover South Korea adorned with its most beautiful colors. At the end of September-beginning of October, the Festival of Masked Dances takes place.

Discovering the Korean language and writing (King Sejong the Great, 1443), is part of the journey. Hanja, Chinese characters, are still taught to Korean at school and sometimes useful to distinguish homophones or to add a nuance.

Korean cuisine, different from those of neighboring countries, is rich and offers specific dishes. Among them, Bibimbap (비빔밥), a mixture of vegetables, rice and meat. You should try Kimchi (김치), made of fermented vegetables (especially cabbage). It is very spicy. Consider this dish as a kind of collective, national and daily herbal medicine !

The flag of South Korea, also known as Taegeukgi (태극기), has a red and blue Taegeuk in its center (the cosmic forces) and four of the eight trigrams (ba gua, 八卦) set around.

Created in 1882, it highlights Korea's Taoist philosophical foundations.
